How to use

  1. 1 Enter the cents per point (CPP) for your specific program. Use TPG May 2026 default if unsure: Chase UR 2.05¢, Amex MR 2.0¢, Marriott 0.7¢, etc.
  2. 2 Enter your points balance from the loyalty program app/website.
  3. 3 Click Calculate to see total dollar value at TPG valuation, statement credit value (1¢ baseline), and premium percentage of using transfer redemption vs cashing out.
  4. 4 Premium percentage tells you whether to transfer for travel: 100%+ premium = always transfer for travel; under 50% = take statement credit if you don't have specific travel plans.
  5. 5 For best value: chase 2-3¢/point through transferable currency (Chase UR, Amex MR, Capital One). Avoid hotel-specific points (Marriott, Hilton) until you have a redemption planned.

FAQ

Q How much is a Chase Ultimate Rewards point worth in 2026?

2.05¢ per point average per TPG May 2026 valuations. Sweet spots: Hyatt transfer 5¢/point, United Polaris 6¢/point. Statement credit baseline: 1¢/point — so transferring to travel partners gives ~105% premium.

Q How much is an Amex Membership Reward point worth?

2.0¢ per point per TPG May 2026. Best uses: ANA First Class (18¢/point), Air France-KLM business class (9¢/point), Delta partner awards. Statement credit at 0.6¢ is terrible — always transfer for travel.

Q Are Marriott Bonvoy points valuable?

Marginal — 0.7¢/point per TPG. Best at high-end Marriott properties (Ritz-Carlton, St Regis), 5th-night free on award stays. Hilton (0.5¢) and IHG (0.5¢) are worse. For travel value, transferable bank points (Chase, Amex) > hotel-specific points.

Q Should I take statement credit or travel transfer?

For Chase UR, Amex MR, Capital One: ALWAYS travel transfer if you have plans. 100-400% premium over statement credit. For Citi TY: 80% premium. Statement credit only useful if you have no upcoming travel and want immediate value.

Q What is a transfer bonus?

Periodic promotion where credit card programs offer 20-50% bonus when transferring to specific partners. Example: Amex MR + Air France 30% bonus = 2.0¢ becomes 2.6¢ effective. Track at UpgradedPoints.com or TPG.com transfer-bonus tracker.

Q How are airline miles valued?

TPG May 2026: Alaska 2.1¢ (best), AA 1.65¢, SW 1.5¢, Delta 1.4¢, United 1.35¢, AlphabetCity (Avianca LifeMiles) 1.7¢. Sweet spots: Cathay Pacific via AA, ANA via United, Lufthansa via Avianca. Domestic flights typically 1-1.5¢, international biz/first 3-15¢.

Q When should I cash out points?

When (1) program devalues unexpectedly (avoid by booking awards immediately), (2) you're leaving country without future travel, (3) sub-optimal program (Hilton, IHG points only worth 0.5¢ — take statement credit if available), or (4) need cash now for emergency.

Q How do I find sweet spot redemptions?

Use AwardHacker, Point.me, or RewardStock to search for award flights. Set up alerts for specific routes. Best deals: international business class via foreign airline partners (ANA, Air France, Lufthansa, Cathay) — 5-15¢/point effective value vs $5K-$15K cash tickets.
